The people who once felt like obstacles in life later felt like protection.

There are instances when obstacles in life, and the people who hinder our way, become unexpected blessings in disguise.

A few years ago, someone offered me marriage, and I agreed to marry him. However, there were family members who discouraged me by saying that I deserve better than that.

Their explanations did not make sense to me, and I believed that they were not thinking of me but themselves.

Their concern was mainly about the financial stability of the guy and his educational background. He was just a graduate while I was a postgraduate. I believed that what truly mattered was whether a person was employed and trying in life. Most importantly, that person’s character is what matters most. Even today, I believe it to be like that. I never completely agreed with the thought that educational qualifications alone would guarantee stability forever, especially in situations like job loss.

To me, having a job and being a decent human being seemed enough.

I took that difficult decision

As much as I wanted to proceed with the alliance, it was also not easy for me to ignore the views of those elders who really cared about me. After several conflicts and struggles within myself, I finally decided to tell them that I am going to decline the marriage alliance.

TBH, it wasn’t an easy decision to make.

At that moment, it felt painful. It felt like an excellent opportunity that was passed up. In my mind, I wondered why there were always some people whose efforts went into making my happiness impossible.

Life has a way of teaching us lessons on its own.

Looking Back Today

Looking back today at that period in my life, I truly consider myself fortunate. Although my standards for a life partner stayed exactly the same, eventually I found an even more compatible person.

Today, I am married to a man who is educated, emotionally mature, and kind-hearted and someone who stands on par with me in many aspects of life. More than qualifications or stability, he is a genuinely good human being. It ticked all the boxes on my checklist of expectations.

I realize that, in life, there will be a few people standing between you and your happiness, which is actually a blessing in disguise. The happiness you thought was real may not truly have been, or perhaps you deserved much more. At that moment, we may misunderstand them. We may even look at them as enemies. But as time passed, I started realizing that sometimes it is necessary for some doors to close.

God Uses People in Different Ways

I realized that God selects few people for the tough job of convincing adamant individuals like me.

Book of Jeremiah 29:11.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans for your prosperity and not for destruction, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Everything could have turned out differently if things had happened just as I felt at that moment.

I now feel thankful to those very people whom I once considered obstacles in my life. Because sometimes, yesterday’s enemies become the reason behind today’s happiness.

Some obstacles in life are not there to break us

Everything in life does not come our way when we wish it. Sometimes, delays, refusal, interruption, or anything that resists our decisions may take us somewhere else that is better for us.

Not all obstacles are meant to resist us; some are actually blessings.
