The Devil Wears Prada 2 Review: An Honest Review of Why I Liked It
I am a great fan of Meryl Streep and I had every reason to anxiously wait for the sequel to come out. I believe she is a legend who is an inspiration to anyone associated with movies, and she is an inspiration for movie lovers to keep watching movies.
1. Why I Loved the Movie
Having watched the first movie, I had every reason to watch the second one. I loved the first one so much that I have watched it many times.
I would say, it is not just Meryl Streep who slays her role. It is all three female leads who just lift the movie to another level. It is the same with the sequel too. They are simply mind-blowing.
Meryl astonishes me with her versatility and how easily she essays her role. So are the other two.
There is a strong message from the movie. The message is, as long as there is a message, the movie is worth watching.
It was interesting to see a changed or a mellowed-down Meryl, which Anne Hathaway (Andy Sachs) rightly said in the movie, “Some changes have happened.”
Emily, with ease, portrays the role of a person who is hungry for more, combined with some grudge that leads her to make decisions that are not becoming of a visionary. And Miranda Priestly is right in saying that she lacked vision.
I liked the fact that Benji is a typical person we see in today’s world who thinks AI can replace anything, even common sense.
Anne shows a character of a typical next-door girl, dying to preserve her job and at the same time, gullible. She does a decent job.
Again, it was a pleasure to see Nigel being rewarded.
Overall, the movie had a very relaxing effect to see good things happen to all.
2. Nothing Beats the Fashion Sense
Oh man! I am a big fan of fashion shows and apparel. Movies like The Devil Wears Prada are just one such occasion to see a plethora of fashion options all in a 3-hour movie.
I just love it.
Irrespective of the age of the three main female leads, all slay fashion 100 percent.
Meryl is so easy on the eyes with every outfit.
That walk to the Milan fashion show wearing a glittering outfit leaves behind everyone, even the other two female leads. The pumped-up music adds to the occasion.
My heart was content watching all the outfits.
I felt like the movie was very realistic rather than fancy entertainment just to up the ante. Instead, keeping a little bit of suspense and weaving a story around the fashion world is heartening.
3. I Would Want to See Yet Another Sequel
Yes.
Both Meryl and Anne’s faces are showing some age, though not on their acting, negatively. Emily is still evergreen, though.
Yet, I hope to see all these characters at least one more time.
I’m not sure how good it was at the box office. For me, it was worth every penny, and I’m willing to pay again. I’m very confident I will still get satisfaction.
A Few Drawbacks
Of course, the movie has a few drawbacks.
For me, the biggest one is that it is difficult to recreate the magic of the first movie. The first The Devil Wears Prada was something special, and the sequel naturally comes with very high expectations.
Some parts of the story could also have been tighter, and a few character decisions may not appeal to everyone.
But these drawbacks did not take away from my overall enjoyment of the movie.
My Verdict
For me, The Devil Wears Prada 2 was worth watching.
I went into the movie with very high expectations because I loved the first one and because I am a huge Meryl Streep fan.
I came out satisfied.
It has Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, fashion, music, familiar characters and a message.
What more could I ask for?
I would watch it again, and if there is another sequel, I will be there to watch it too.
My rating: 4 out of 5.
